Cpl. T.L. Johnson
Cpl. T.L. Johnson, Crewchief HMM-363. Flew with T.L. on many a
mission and damn proud of it. In our idle hours we would construct
elaborate shelters with our brothers to shield our cans. Believe
this is KyHa also, again late 66.

HMM-363 Phu Bai 1968:
This is a great photo of CPL Hiram A. Hogg sitting inside the cabin door of our old and tired UH-34s. This photo shows the lack of time to perform normal
maintenance like touch up paint as you can see from the cabin door. To the rear on the right is a GREASE BAG hanging up on the passenger seats. This bag held the Grease Gun and extra tubes of GREASE. The picture also clearly shows the wear on Hiram's
flight helmet. Cpl Hiram A. Hogg was a Crew Chief from 67 - 68 with
HMM-363.

HMM-363 1968:
Hank Amparan of a HMM-363 a Crew Chief catching some rest between hot flights. Crew Chiefs along with everyone else, worked long hard hours. Most were involved with Aircraft Maintenance both prior to and after flying.
Average work day could be 12 to 18 hrs. 6 to 7 days a week, depending on the Operational load at the time. The worst was the Spring of 68 (TET) or during large scale Operations , no one got enough sleep!

for General Quarters of Flight Quarters. HMM-363 was aboard the USS

Refueling the
UH-34Ds:
CPL Hiram A. Hogg (HMM-363) refueling a UH-34D. The UH-34Ds had
three fuel cells (Bags realy) that needed to be fueled separately.
Each Fuel tank had its own fuel cap. All were on the Cabin door
side. One was forward of the Landing gear next to the Oil fill
cap. Two were aft of the cabin door. These two seen here being
filled required the Cabin door to be closed to gain access to the
fuel filler caps. This was risky if you had an aircraft full of Med
Evacs that could not get out in the case of a fire. Usually we had
all passemgers and crew with the exception of the Pilot and Co-Pilot
get out of the aircraft. This was not possible if there were Med
Evacs.
